I have been fishing the saltwater lagoons of east central Florida for over 25 years. For the last 11 years, I have been a full time flats fishing guide specializing in sight fishing the flats with light tackle and fly fishing gear. I prefer stalking redfish, trout, and drum in shallow water with fly and artificial lures over chucking out a piece of bait and waiting for something to come along. I enjoy poling the boat and casting to fish I can see over fishing with any kind of bait. Since the early 90's, I have been fly fishing these waters as well. I can still recall exactly where I was the first time I hooked a redfish on fly. Guiding allows me to share that same experience with other anglers. While I can never guarantee how the fish will act or how many an angler might catch, I can be sure they will get off the boat having learned some new or different fishing techniques.
I believe that the people that catch the most fish n a consistent basis pay attention to the small details. For that reason, I am constantly trying to teach others the things I have learned. While I certainly do not know everything that works, I do know what has worked for me over many years and I know what definitely does not work. In addition to teaching on my boat, I also enjoy doing seminars at shows and tackle shops.
I am one of the few Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructors in the area. Becoming an instructor made me a much better fly caster. In turn, I am able to offer advice to my fly fishing clients in a way that non-fly fishing guides cannot. I also give private and on-line casting analysis and instruction through Orlando Fly Casting. While I enjoy fly fishing as much as anyone, I will not hesitate to pick up a spinning rod with an artificial lure if conditions dictate. For me, getting the bite, especially one I can see, is the best part.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to film an episode of the tv show Addictive Fishing. It was made in the Mosquito Lagoon with Capt. Blair Wiggins. You can see some excerpts from the show by clicking the image below
