If you are looking for an inshore saltwater flats fishing trip, the options in this region of Florida include the Mosquito Lagoon, the Indian River Lagoon, and the Banana River Lagoon. The shallow saltwater estuaries offer excellent year round fishing opportunities for redfish, black drum, and seatrout. While they are all similar, certain areas or bodies of water may be producing more fish or certain species of fish at differing times. Please advise your guide of any specific requests you have for fishing locations. See drop down menu under this tab for more specific information on each area. In addition to flats fishing, there are other seasonal opportunities available. During the summer months, Atlantic Ocean nearshore fishing is available, weather permitting. These trips target tarpon, king mackerel, jack crevalle, false albacore, sharks, and more. Tarpon fishing may be with artificial lure but most other fishing involves slow trolling live baits within one mile or less of the beach. Smooth conditions and bait schools need to be present for reasonable success.
From late December through March, a run of American Shad travel south down the St. John's River just east of Orlando. These fish provide a great fight on ultralight tackle or fly fishing gear and do not require the casting skill of many redfish. This narrow body of water is fishable in poor weather. in addition to the shad fishing, there are bass and a variety of panfish and speckled perch.
