There is some great saltwater fishing near Orlando and Disney World that you can enjoy while you spend your vacation in the number one tourist spot in Florida. Many people travel to Orlando to visit Walt Disney World. While the many Disney parks, as well as nearby Universal Studios and Sea World, are lots of fun, some people need a break from the traffic, long lines, and crowds. Just one hour east of Orlando and Disney is some great saltwater flats fishing. The Indian River Lagoon system, including the Mosquito Lagoon and Banana River, offer backcountry inshore saltwater fishing for redfish, seatrout, and black drum, twelve months a year. Much of the fishing can be done inside the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. This means no condos, hotels, or houses, just nature and great fishing. Dolphins and manatee inhabit these waters during much of the year. Warm winters offer nesting spots for a wide variety of birds as well.

Reaching the fishing areas will require a car. The drive is almost all highway travel with very few stops. For anglers wanting to fish the Mosquito Lagoon or Indian River, the best place to meet is usually in Titusville, which is just outside the wildlife refuge. From there, it is a short ten minute trip to the boat ramp.

Great fishing near Orlando

Many people believe that Orlando is just for bass fishing. While Orlando does have plenty of lakes, there is not a bass alive that can compete with the pulling power of a redfish.
